THEORY:
“So go marry someone, provided you’re equally yoked and you actually like being with each other. Go get a job, provided it’s not wicked. Go live somewhere in something with somebody or nobody. But put aside the passivity and the quest for complete fulfillment and the perfectionism and the preoccupation with the future, and for God’s sake start making some decisions in your life. Don’t wait for the liver-shiver. If you are seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, you will be in God’s will, so just go out and do something.” (This is an excerpt from his book).
ACTION:
In 2010, I watched Kevin DeYoung’s YouTube video about this topic. Then I bought the book for myself and gifted another to a friend. I remember feeling relieved at that time knowing that as long as I seek first the Kingdom of God then I can be free to do anything and not be preoccupied by the fear that I may not be doing God’s will in my life. And then forward to 2024, I still have not applied the lessons I learned from the book and these many years later I find myself paralyzed by indecision. I keep planning, editing and rearranging my priorities and at the same time ruminating about my past. I torture myself replaying the decisions I made in the past and how I have wasted time. Although, I don’t even remember being idle. I am always busy, busy thinking, planning and replanning and never really fully executing my plans nor following through. Until, by God’s grace, this book by Kevin DeYoung popped in my head.
So, here I am. Finally doing what I have thought of doing for the longest time. Writing my first blog.
Thank you Kevin for the inspiration.
And to myself, I would like to say, Congratulations! Good job for starting. Keep at it. This is an exciting journey. Take one day at a time. Do not be overwhelmed. Remember the lesson from Atomic Habits by James Clear, all you need is to get 1% better everyday.
These are the things that I will work on:
WORK. Continuing education is necessary in my job so that I can provide the best care to our customers. After work, I will read at least 1 topic.
SIDE HUSTLE. I would like to start a blog and a YouTube channel. I named this blog Fromtheorytoaction because I would like to move from theory to action. I would like to see what results I get when I apply the lessons I am learning from books or from other sources of information.
Here are my current interests for blog/vlog ideas:
- I would like to learn to speak Frenchthrough the Mango app. According to the book “The First 20 Hours, How To Learn Anything Fast by Josh Kaufman”, a person will only need 20 hours to be good enough in any field. So, I would like to test that out. Mango app is great with this because it tracks how much time I am spending using the app.
- I would like to
improve my english communication skillsby reading fiction books. I can communicate well in English but I would like to expand my vocabulary and know more topics to talk about when having conversations.
- I would like to read self help books. I used to read a lot of these but I wasn’t deliberately applying the lessons I have learned. I will change that by choosing a few lessons from each book I read then applying them and keeping track of the results. The first book I will be applying is “The Life-changing magic of tidying up by Marie Kondo”.
There are many more things I would like to accomplish during my time here on Earth. I know my interests may change in the future, and I am open to that. For now, I will work to get these things done until I get the direction to change course. What I will not do from now on is to wait for things to be perfect before I begin, because more likely it will never be perfect.
I can do this! I know I can!
I will post an update to these tasks regularly.
RESULTS:
In progress……..
