My activities today:
- Folded and put away laundry from last night while listening to Timothy Keller
- Ironed my clothes for tomorrow’s shift
- removed dust from under my bed and my sister’s
- Washed some dishes from last night
- Went grocery shopping with my brother
- Went to dairy queen with my brother
- Had my eyeglasses adjusted
- Cooked dinner while listening to Jim Rohn
- Washed the dishes while listening to Jim Rohn
Yesterday, I told my brother that I am still struggling with the time I have been spending scrolling on my phone. After working an 11 hour shift, I go home and have dinner. While having dinner, I usually set an alarm for 30 minutes and watch some youtube videos. My brother was the one who told me to do this because it works for him. Once the alarm goes off, he would turn off his phone and continue working on his tasks for the day. Well, unfortunately, most of the time, it doesn’t work for me. I end up resetting the alarm multiple times until it’s close to midnight then I have to rush to clean up and get ready for bed.
On the rare occasions that this technique works, I would turn off youtube and start cleaning up in the kitchen while listening to Jim Rohn. After I have put away the dishes, I would sit down, open up my phone again to have a little break before I head upstairs to wash up. I would set a shorter alarm of 10 minutes and I end up hitting snooze multiple times and the next thing I know, I’ve been on the couch for an hour. Then, I would beat myself up for having no will power at all.
After telling my brother all this, he just casually said, “That’s very easy to solve”. Quoting Newton’s first law of motion, he said, “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.” Here I am, reading self -help books and looking for answers there while my brother has a really cool and different way of looking at my problem. He is an engineer after all, of course he’d explain things this way.
So when I got home, I didn’t sit down. I kept moving. I had Newton’s law in my head all day and it worked. I will experiment on this and will see what happens.
Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the people you spend the most time with”. I’m keeping my brother within my circle. Lol.
Day 34/180 (ChatGPT version)
Today’s wins:
– Folded and put away last night’s laundry while listening to Timothy Keller
– Ironed my clothes for tomorrow’s shift
– Cleared out the dust under my bed and my sister’s
– Washed some leftover dishes
– Went grocery shopping with my brother
– Stopped by Dairy Queen together
– Had my eyeglasses adjusted
– Cooked dinner while listening to Jim Rohn
– Washed dishes (also with Jim Rohn in the background)
Yesterday, I told my brother that I’m still struggling with the amount of time I spend scrolling on my phone after work.
Here’s my usual routine: I finish an 11-hour shift, go home, have dinner, set a timer for 30 minutes, and watch YouTube videos to “relax.” My brother suggested this timer technique because it works well for him. Once his alarm goes off, he simply turns off his phone and gets back to whatever he needs to do.
Well… that’s not how it goes for me.
Most nights, I end up resetting the timer again and again until suddenly it’s close to midnight. Then I’m rushing to clean up and get ready for bed, annoyed at myself for wasting time.
On the rare nights when the timer actually works, I turn off YouTube, clean the kitchen while listening to Jim Rohn, put everything away — and then reward myself by sitting back down with my phone “just for 10 minutes.” I set a shorter alarm and, of course, I hit snooze multiple times until I’ve been mindlessly scrolling for an hour. And then comes the self-criticism… again.
So when I told all of this to my brother, he casually said, “That’s very easy to solve.”
Then he quoted Newton’s First Law of Motion:
“An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion… unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.”
Here I am reading self-help books, searching for answers in psychology and productivity systems — and my brother comes in with a physics lesson. But honestly? He has a really cool way of looking at things. He is an engineer after all.
So tonight, when I got home, I didn’t sit down. I kept moving. I had Newton’s Law in my head the entire evening… and it worked. I’m going to experiment with this and see how long I can keep the momentum going.
Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the people you spend the most time with.”
Well, I’m definitely keeping my brother in my circle. Lol.
