“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity. This is one reason why meaningful change does not require radical change. Small habits can make a meaningful difference by providing evidence of a new identity. And if a change is meaningful, it is actually big. That’s the paradox of making small improvements.”- James Clear
I have to remember this everyday. I have to cast my vote to my better self. My responsible self. Every action I do should be towards the win of my better self. When I am tempted to scroll on my phone I should always remember that if I give in, I am letting my irresponsible self win.
Day 151/180 (ChatGPT version)
“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity. This is why meaningful change doesn’t require radical change. Small habits can make a meaningful difference by providing proof of a new identity. And if a change is meaningful, it is big. That’s the paradox of small improvements.”

I need to remember this every day. Every action is a vote—for the person I want to become or the person I’m trying to leave behind.
I want to keep voting for my better self. My responsible, disciplined, future-focused self. So whenever I feel tempted to waste time scrolling on my phone, I need to remind myself:
If I give in, I’m letting my old, irresponsible self win.
But every time I choose the better action—even a tiny one—I’m building the identity I truly want.
One vote at a time.
